A Review of Lily and Bear
Author: Lisa Stubbs
Lily and Bear is about a little girl named Lily. Lily loves to draw and imagine. One day, she draws something fantastic-
Lily and Bear are best friends who love to do all of her favorite things together. They have royal tea parties, play pirates, and sing and dance, just to name a few things! The illustration in the book is truly beautiful and I think definitely helps you get a feel of the story and characters.
One day though, Bear is tired of doing all of those things. At this point while reading the story, I thought we were going to have a “Giving Tree” moment where this was going to turn horribly sad. Thankfully, that is not the case. Lily learns how to do bear things too, and Bear teaches her about his world. The book is a celebration of friendship that will make both you and kids smile. One of my favorite parts is the illustrations in the book. It was done incredibly well. It’s also fun to point out the differences and similarities in Bear’s world compared to Lily’s.
A fun question to pose to children is what animal they’d draw to be their friend. What would their adventure look like? What does their animal like to do in their habitat? This book can bring up lots of fun, creative conversations with little ones!
There is another book with these characters called Grumpy Feet. We haven’t read it yet, but it’s definitely on our list to do!
Have you read Lily and Bear? What did you think?
